Laftagareen Inaugurates New Airport in Buur Hakaba

Buur Hakaba, Somalia – President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen of Southwest State on Sunday officially inaugurated the newly constructed airport in Buur Hakaba city, marking a milestone for infrastructure development in the region.

The airport project, realized through close collaboration between the Southwest State administration and the local community, is expected to transform connectivity for Buur Hakaba district. Authorities believe the facility will not only ease travel and transport but also open new avenues for trade, investment, and humanitarian access.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Laftagareen commended residents of Buur Hakaba for their role in supporting the initiative. He emphasized that the airport symbolizes the power of partnership between government and citizens in advancing regional development goals.

Local leaders and community representatives also attended the inauguration, celebrating the project as a long-awaited achievement. The new airport is anticipated to improve access to Mogadishu and other key cities, enabling faster movement of people, goods, and services across Southwest State.

Officials noted that the facility would further contribute to job creation, stimulate business growth, and enhance humanitarian response capacity in a region that has often faced security and climate-related challenges.

The Buur Hakaba airport project reflects Southwest State’s broader development agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure expansion, service delivery, and economic resilience.
