A significant voter turnout has been reported in Somaliland’s presidential election, with incumbent President Muse Bihi Abdi, opposition leader Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Irro,” and UCID party leader Faisal Ali Warabe casting their votes.
Over one million registered voters have taken to the polls currently underway in cities across Somaliland, illustrating a strong public engagement in the electoral process within this self-declared autonomous region in northern Somalia.
The election is a pivotal event for Somaliland, which has operated with its own government since declaring independence from Somalia in 1991, though it remains internationally unrecognized.
The eagerly awaited November 13 elections are historical as they offer voters in Somaliland a maiden opportunity to vote for their preferred presidential and parliamentary candidates on the same day.
