Last week, the US military conducted several airstrikes that killed 15 Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia.
At the time of their death, the militants were in an intense battle with AMISOM and Somali troops.
Maj. Karl Wiest, the spokesman for the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), confirmed the news to Voice of America on Friday.
Maj. Wiest said Al-Shabaab continues to pose a “looming threat” to international forces following the recapture of Janaale Town from the control of the extremists.
On Monday and Tuesday last week, AMISOM and SNA carried out five airstrikes near Janaale.
Al-Shabaab responded to this strike by launching its own attack, which never wounded any AMISOM or United States military personnel.
