Omar Abdulle Shooli, a legendary Somali musician, has died at the Aden Adde Hospital in Mogadishu where he had been admitted recently.
Shooli, who was part of the famous Waberi Somali National Artists, a group he joined in the 1960s, died of diabetes.
A few of his children, who had gone to visit him at the hospital to check on his progress, confirmed news of his death.
According to them, the government stopped assisting their father.
Hirsi Dooh, the Chairman of Somali Poets’ Association, said, “Omar Shooli and his fellow artists have left a legacy behind. As a national artist, he has left us with historic songs too.”
A few days ago, Shooli said that the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) had lost its national pride. He said no government official ever visited him during his illness.
Shooli also claimed that the government was never aware of his health.
