Legendary Somali Musician Dies of COVID-19 in London

Ahmed Ismail Hussein, a legendary Somali pianist, songwriter, and poet has died of COVID-19 in London.

Reports say that Hussein, who is also known as Hudeydi, succumbed to the deadly pandemic on Tuesday night at a London hospital.

At the time of his death, he was 92 years old. Hudeydi was diagnosed with the disease, which he battled for a few days, before passing away.

He is expected to be interred in the United Kingdom, which has been his home for most of his life since fleeing Somalia at the end of the Horn of Africa nation’s deadly civil war.

Ayan Mohamoud, a former Somaliland representative in Britain, broke the news of the legendary musician’s demise on Twitter. She never divulged more details, though.
