Federal parliamentarians have unanimously approved Hamza Abdi Barre as Somalia’s new Prime Minister.
Parliamentary approval was the only barrier standing in front of Barre.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had appointed Barre the Prime Minister earlier this month.
However, his preferred candidate for the Prime Minister’s office still had to wait for the approval of the federal parliament.
Parliament finally approved him on Saturday, June 25.
The approval was quite overwhelming as all the 220 legislators in today’s session raised their hands in support of Barre’s appointment.
Consequently, Barre now has 30 days to appoint new cabinet ministers.
