Dhusamareeb, Somalia – At the Warcade Nutrition Centre in Dhusamareeb, hundreds of families are receiving critical support as the Galmudug Ministry of Health, in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP), expands its life-saving services under the Joint Resilience Programme.
The centre has become a vital lifeline for malnourished children and mothers struggling with the compounded effects of drought, conflict, and economic hardship. Health workers are providing therapeutic feeding, medical check-ups, and counseling for families, ensuring that children suffering from severe acute malnutrition receive urgent care.
Officials say the initiative is addressing a growing need in the region, where food insecurity and displacement continue to expose families to heightened risks of hunger and disease.
“This partnership brings much-needed services directly to communities that might otherwise have no access to health or nutrition support,” a local health coordinator explained.
The programme is made possible through funding from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), channeled via KfW Development Bank. The support is strengthening resilience systems in Galmudug by combining emergency interventions with long-term strategies aimed at reducing malnutrition rates and promoting community well-being.
For families in Dhusamareeb, the centre is more than just a clinic — it represents hope. Mothers lining up with their children said the services have already saved lives in a region where humanitarian needs remain pressing.
