Social activities at Liido Beach remain suspended to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the capital city and the rest of the country, Mogadishu Municipal Council announced.
Omar Mohamed Mohamud, the Mayor of Mogadishu, issued this edict during weekly meetings in Mogadishu.
The Mayor, who is also the Governor of Banadir Region, stated the importance of closing hotels along Liido Beach, which is usually a gathering place for hundreds of people each weekend.
Further, he requested Somalis to follow the directives the Federal Government of Somali has issued through the Ministry of Health to curtail the spread of Coronavirus.
The primary agenda of the weekly meeting, which took place at Shangani District headquarters, was the need for increasing awareness of COVID-19.
Sheikh Nur, the Minister for Religious Endowment, led several top government officials in attending the meeting.
On Sunday, the government donated several testing equipment to help the Banadir administration conduct effective tests in the region.
Currently, the health ministry has confirmed three COVID-19 cases that include two Somalis and a foreigner working for the UN Mission in Somalia.
