Traders have incurred losses worth more than US$1 billion from the fire that razed business premises to the ground on Friday night.
According to Somaliland’s National Support Committee for the Victims of the Waaheen Market fire in Hargeisa assets lost in the incident are worth between $1.5 and $2 billion.
The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed this figure while receiving messages of solidarity from world leaders.
Already, the Somaliland government under the leadership of President Muse Bihi Abdi has promised $1 million to support the traders.
