Lower House Speaker Calls Lawmakers for an Extraordinary Session on Saturday

Ambassador Mohamed Mursal, the Speaker of the Lower House, has called lawmakers to an extraordinary session on April 31.

Speaker Mursal issued the call on April 27.

He spoke a few hours after President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo announced that he would no longer pursue his controversial term extension.

Farmaajo addressed the public on television on Tuesday night.

President Farmaajo requested parliament to implement the electoral deal signed on September 17 by the Lower House.

If the Lower House votes to restore and implement the September 17 deal, then the recent decision to extend Farmaajo’s term by two years would be invalidated.
