Members of the House of Representatives have unanimously voted to approve the appointment of Mohamed Hussein Roble as the new Prime Minister of Somalia.
The Members of Parliament voted for President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s choice of Prime Minister on Wednesday afternoon.
The MPs met at an extraordinary session held at Villa Somalia, the presidential palace.
All the 215 MPs who attended the session voted in favor of Roble as the new premier, as per the announcement by Mohamed Hursal, the Speaker of the Lower House.
Consequently, Roble’s path to forming a new government is now clear. The Lower House has given him the mandate to select his cabinet.
Farmaajo appointed the little-known Roble as the country’s new premier on Thursday September 17.
The 57-year old civil engineer previously studied at the Somali National University from where he graduated before migrating to Sweden.
He has worked for several private firms including the International Labor Organization (ILO) but has no political experience.
