Abdulkadir Siidii, the Governor of Lower Shabelle, was the target of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack.
Reports from the region show that Governor Siidii was attacked on January 16 early in the morning.
Suspected Al-Shabaab extremists targeted him and other military officers on Sunday.
Governor Siidii was attacked in Tihsiile, which is roughly 50kms west of Mogadishu, the capital of the East African nation.
Multiple fatalities were reported though Governor Siidii and the military officers are reportedly safe.
