President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Somali’s semiautonomous Jubbaland State has accused President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of disregarding the electoral agreement negotiated and signed by Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).
Madobe made these comments on Saturday, November 28 in a video interview.
He blamed Farmaajo’s administration for not respecting the two electoral areas in each state as stipulated in September 2020’s electoral agreement.
Furthermore, Madobe said that Farmaajo had supported and appointed his loyalists to influence the voting patterns in the electoral commissions spread all over the country. Therefore, Madobe believes that the loyalists would make the electoral results unfavorable to those opposed to Farmaajo.
President Madobe also warned Farmaajo that Somalia might not hold elections, especially if Farmaajo continues disrespecting the requirements stipulated in the agreement. He mentioned that Jubbaland would only be ready for the elections once Gedo is returned to the regional state.
