Regional forces in Jubbaland have increased the pressure applied against Al-Shabaab and other militant groups in the semiautonomous area.
Early this week, the region’s leader, President Ahmed Madobe, presided over the passing out parade for 620 soldiers.
The soldiers now join the highly specialized paramilitary unit.
During the passing out parade, Madobe urged the new soldiers to work closely with the veterans to ensure that Al-Shabaab extremists are eradicated from the region.
Additionally, he urged for more support from the international community.
Somalia has been in conflict for over three decades and the situation has given Al-Shabaab space to carry out a reign of terror in the country.
President Madobe indicated that the regional forces would remain deployed in Jubbaland to help in the fight against the militia group.
