Madobe Claims Farmaajo Attempted to Bribe Not to Vie for Second Term

President Ahmed Islam Madobe of the Somalia semiautonomous region of Jubbaland claimed that he rejected a bribe from Villa Somalia not to vie for second term.

Madobe made these claims on December 31 during the opening ceremony of the annual forum of Heritage Institute of Policy Studies (HIPS).

He said the bribe – worth US$20 million – was offered in 2019 as he sought election as the President of Jubbaland.

Apparently, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) tried to bribe Madobe to prevent the latter from vying for reelection.
