President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland claims that fellow Federal Member States (FMS) leaders betrayed him during the Gedo region talks with Villa Somalia.
Madobe said that he held talks with President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) on the hotly disputed Gedo region.
He claims that his colleagues from the FMS never backed him during those talks.
At the time, Madobe strongly pushed Farmaajo for the withdrawal of government troops from Gedo region.
Madobe said that he would have succeeded with a bit of support from his colleagues.
The Jubbaland leader claims that the other leaders urged him to drop his condition for the talks to focus on Gedo first.
His colleagues assured him that they would pick up the issue with Farmaajo after the meeting, which they never did.
Madobe has reiterated his call for the return of Gedo to his administration. He told Farmaajo that elections would not take place in Jubbaland if this condition were not met.
President Madobe was speaking at the recently concluded annual conference of the Heritage Institute for Policy Studies (HIPS).
