Madobe Supports Farmaajo’s Call for Resumption of Elections Talks

President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland has thrown his weight behind President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s call for resumption of dialogue.

On February 10, Farmaajo announced that electoral talks would recommence in Garowe on February 15.

His announcement came almost a week after the collapse of the National Consultative Conference in Dhusamareb.

While supporting Farmaajo’s fresh calls for resumption of talks to find solutions for the ongoing impasse, Madobe said that the talks should be in Mogadishu rather than Garowe.

Farmaajo’s choice of Garowe as the venue for the next round of talks is telling considering that the city is under the control of Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni.

Together with Madobe, Deni has been one of Farmaajo’s fiercest critics.

Nevertheless, Madobe stated that Mogadishu would be perfect venue for the next round of talks since it would allow more stakeholders to attend.
