As Somaliland gears up to celebrate its 32nd anniversary of independence on 18th May, the streets of Hargeisa are alive with preparations. Since declaring independence from Somalia in 1991, Somaliland has built a stable, democratic state with functioning institutions and peaceful transitions of power—yet it remains unrecognized by the international community.
Despite its lack of formal recognition, Somaliland continues to assert its sovereignty, with this year’s celebrations expected to highlight its achievements and renewed calls for global acknowledgment.
