A man who attempted to rob a Somali shop owner in Johannesburg has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
A Mpumalanga court imprisoned Thabo Thomas Mayisa for 15 years behind bars.
Mayisa had attempted to rob the shop on December 30, 2021.
However, his attempts failed when the owner held them hostage in the shop before shooting Mayisa’s accomplice multiple times.
The accomplice died.
He then aimed at Mayisa whom he shot in the thigh. Mayisa then fled the scene in the getaway car that was outside the shop.
Police later arrested him in a local hospital where he was rushed in search of treatment.
The driver of the getaway car is yet to be apprehended.
