A man who has been a member of Al-Shabaab since his childhood has surrendered to the Somali National Army (SNA).
The 21-year-old Mohamed Omar Mohamed surrendered to government troops on Wednesday.
While surrendering in Lower Jubba, Mohamed admitted that Al-Shabaab recruited him when he was an 8-year-old child.
His defection is the latest by Al-Shabaab members.
Many of them have defected to the government side citing the intense counterterrorism operations by SNA and international partners all over the country.
