Mastermind of Mogadishu Mall Bombing Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

Mogadishu, Somalia – A Somali military court on Thursday sentenced Muhiyadin Abdusalam Mahmoud, known as “Daqare,” to life in prison for masterminding recruitment and indoctrination operations for the militant group Al-Shabaab.

Daqare was found guilty of playing a key role in facilitating major terrorist attacks, including the deadly 2019 Mogadishu mall bombing that claimed dozens of lives.

The court also sentenced former army officer Abdihakim Ahmed Diini Awaale, alias “Wadne,” to four years in prison. Prosecutors said Wadne was radicalized by Daqare and later supported Al-Shabaab’s activities.

Officials hailed the verdicts as a significant step in the government’s ongoing campaign to dismantle terror networks and hold collaborators accountable.
