Mogadishu, Somalia – On Sunday, Mogadishu Mayor Hassan Mohamed Mungab officially inaugurated the long-anticipated renovation of Zope Road, marking a significant step in the capital’s infrastructure development plan.
The ceremony, attended by city officials and local residents, celebrated the launch of this key project aimed at improving urban mobility, boosting economic activity, and easing traffic congestion in Mogadishu.
Zope Road is considered one of the capital’s busiest and most strategic thoroughfares, linking several commercial districts and residential neighborhoods.
“This road is more than just asphalt and concrete—it is a lifeline for thousands of Mogadishu residents who rely on it for their daily activities,” said Mayor Mungab during the inauguration.
“Renovating Zope is not only about restoring a vital artery, but also about reaffirming our commitment to building a modern and accessible city,” he said.
The renovation of Zope Road is part of a broader infrastructure revitalization program launched by the Benadir Regional Administration.
The program focuses on upgrading roads, drainage systems, and public transportation services to meet the growing needs of Mogadishu’s population.
City engineers have confirmed that the project includes resurfacing damaged sections, improving pedestrian access, and installing better drainage to mitigate flooding during the rainy season.
Local business owners and commuters have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the project will reduce delays, enhance safety, and improve the overall quality of urban life.
Mayor Mungab concluded his remarks by calling for continued public cooperation and pledged transparency and accountability in the execution of the project.
