Mohamud Abshir’s marriage to Farhia Abdi Farah, a 14-year old girl, triggered heated discussions on social media.
Abshir was criticized for marrying a “minor.”
The practice is quite common in the local culture.
Lately though, there have been efforts by human rights activists and women leaders around the country to introduce laws that prohibit the practice.
The Sexual Offences Bill was meant to address some of these practices.
