Military Forces Launch Disarmament Drive in Sanaag Region

On Sunday, Somaliland military launched a disarmament drive in Sanaag region. The operation is designed to disarm clans that have fought in several inter-clan conflicts.

However, locals say that Sanaag, which is a deeply troubled region with numerous armed conflicts, needs more armed individuals to stand against militants who make it unsafe.

Subsequently, locals took to the streets to protest the decision by government troops to disarm individuals who are unlicensed to carry guns.

Locals held peaceful demonstrations in several villages that include Bohol, Laasa-Dabare, El-lehelay, Siiga-Dher, Kalboc, and Hulul.

Regular military forces in the region have since captured 16 light weapons, which included two battlewagons and several guns.

Meanwhile, security forces continue with their door-to-door searches for weapons hidden in residential places.
