Ministry of Health Announces 79 New COVID-19 Cases in Somalia

The Ministry of Health has announced a further 79 COVID-19 cases in the country, which brings the total to 835.

Somalia’s 835 COVID-19 cases are the highest in the Horn of Africa nation.

In the last month, Somalia has become the epicenter of the deadly disease that has killed more than 250,000 globally.

Of the newly confirmed cases, the health ministry said that 38 were in the Benadir region. Jubaland had 22 cases. Meanwhile, the Southwest state had 11 cases, and Puntland 8.

Further, while issuing the latest updates, Dr. Fawziya Abikar, the health minister, also reported that the number of deaths now stands at 38.

Benadir region is the only part of the country with the required capacity for conducting COVID-19 tests. All the other regions lack testing capacity.
