Minneapolis officials cancelled a trip they had planned for Somalia in February this year over security concerns.
Officials who planned to lead a Minneapolis delegation to Somalia included Mayor Jacob Frey and local police chief Brian O’Hara.
At the time, Mayor Frey claimed the trip would help to strengthen relations between them and Somalia.
Minneapolis has the largest population of Somalis in the United States.
It also boasts of sisterly relations with the Somalia city of Bosaso.
The Minneapolis-Bosaso sisterly relations are 10 years old.
According to insiders, the trip to the East African nation had already caused a huge rift between members of the Somali community in Minneapolis.
Sources believe that the trip was canceled after Mayor Frey and the rest received a travel advisory from the US State Department.
