Minnesota Man Pleads Guilty to Supporting ISIS in Foiled Terror Plot

Minnesota, United States – A 23-year-old Somali-American man from Minnesota has pleaded guilty to attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization, following a federal investigation that uncovered his active efforts to join the group.

Abdisatar Ahmed Hassan admitted in court that he had long expressed support for ISIS and sought to travel overseas — specifically to Somalia — to join the militant group. Prosecutors revealed that Hassan had openly praised terrorist attacks, shared jihadist propaganda online, and posed with ISIS flags while holding a knife in photos posted on social media.

During a search of his residence, authorities discovered digital manuals containing instructions on constructing explosives, further solidifying the case against him. In his plea agreement, Hassan acknowledged that he supported ISIS’s goal of establishing a global caliphate and intended to aid their operations.

He now remains in federal custody while awaiting sentencing. U.S. law enforcement officials in Minnesota emphasized that the case underscores their continued vigilance against homegrown extremism.

“Stopping radicalization before it turns into violence remains a top priority,” authorities said, warning that online propaganda continues to be a powerful recruitment tool for terrorist organizations.

Hassan faces a potential lengthy prison sentence under federal terrorism statutes.
