Mogadishu Artist Wins First UN-Sponsored Human Rights Art Competition

A Mogadishu-based artist emerged victorious in the first United Nations-sponsored human rights art competition in Somalia.

Salman Osman Shariff was announced the winner in a ceremony carried out in the nation’s capital on Tuesday.

While traveling to the venue of the awards ceremony, Shariff had an accident.

He was then rushed to hospital for treatment.

Although he was unable to attend the ceremony in person, Shariff called in via phone to receive the wonderful news.

UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) announced the winner jointly with the National Museum of Somalia.
