Mogadishu, Somalia – The Federal Ministry of Interior Security has strongly condemned a fresh outbreak of violence in the Gedo region, specifically in the town of Balad-Hawo, where Somali National Army (SNA) personnel and civilians were attacked earlier today.
The ministry squarely blamed Jubbaland regional leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe for orchestrating the assaults, which resulted in the tragic loss of Somali lives.
In an official statement issued Saturday afternoon, the ministry expressed deep sorrow over the casualties and reiterated the federal government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring peace, protecting civilians, and maintaining national unity.
“The Ministry of Interior Security condemns in the strongest terms today’s attacks in Balad-Hawo by forces loyal to Ahmed Madobe,” the statement read. “These acts of aggression against SNA forces and innocent civilians are unacceptable and must end immediately. They undermine the ongoing efforts to stabilize the Gedo region and the broader process of reconciliation,” it further stated.
Preliminary reports indicate that the violence erupted early Saturday morning when armed units linked to the Jubbaland administration engaged in direct confrontations with federal troops stationed in Balad-Hawo. Civilian casualties have been confirmed, though exact figures are yet to be released.
The Gedo region has long been a flashpoint for tensions between the Federal Government and Jubbaland authorities, with frequent disputes over control, military deployments, and parallel administrations.
Federal officials emphasized that the government remains open to dialogue but will not tolerate attacks on national forces or communities.
“The preservation of Somali lives and national cohesion remains our priority. Those responsible for today’s violence will be held accountable,” the statement added.
No response has yet been issued by Jubbaland authorities or Ahmed Madobe.
The ministry concluded its message by calling on all stakeholders, including clan elders, civil society, and international partners, to condemn the renewed hostilities and support efforts for a peaceful resolution in Gedo.
Further developments are expected as federal security agencies continue investigations and assess the full impact of the attack.
