Mogadishu Hosts 27th Horn of Africa Finance Ministers’ Meeting

MOGADISHU — The 27th meeting of the Finance Ministers of the Horn of Africa Initiative officially opened today in Mogadishu, the capital of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

This year’s high-level conference is hosted by Somalia and chaired by the country’s Minister of Finance, Bihi Iman Egeh, who currently serves as the Chairperson of the forum.

Regional Leaders Convene

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is expected to attend the conference. The gathering has drawn Finance Ministers from across the region, including representatives from South Sudan, Sudan, Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Kenya.

Key international partners are also present, with delegates from the World Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the European Union, the UK Government, and IGAD.

Focus on Energy and Integration

The agenda for the meeting focuses on strengthening economic cooperation, with a specific emphasis on the utilization of energy resources in the Horn of Africa and the development of deeper economic integration.

Held biannually, the forum aims to enhance production and connectivity among member states. It is expected that a communiqué will be issued at the conclusion of the conference, outlining strategies to accelerate joint opportunities in energy and development.
