Mogadishu Mayor Opens Ten New Roads at Ba’ad Market

Mogadishu – The Banadir Regional Administration Governor and Mogadishu Mayor Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Mungab) officially opened ten newly built interlocking roads at Suuq Bacaad, the second largest marketplace in the Somali capital.

This road development initiative is part of the Banadir Regional Administration’s wider strategy to enhance urban transportation, expand public services, and stimulate economic growth throughout Mogadishu. Suuq Bacaad Market, a central commercial center that accommodates thousands of traders and inhabitants each day, has long needed improved infrastructure to reduce traffic jams and improve accessibility.

Addressing attendees at the opening event, Mayor Mungab emphasized the administration’s dedication to upgrading the city’s infrastructure, especially in principal markets that are crucial for community livelihoods and local trade. He highlighted that the finished interlocking roads would substantially enhance transportation, hygiene conditions, and overall security within the market precinct.

The initiative is also anticipated to enable smoother movement of merchandise and pedestrians, minimize dust accumulation and flooding during rainy periods, and promote the structured growth of Suuq Bacaad Market.

Area traders and local residents expressed appreciation for the development, characterizing it as a well-timed measure that will stimulate commercial activities and enhance the working conditions in one of Mogadishu’s most vibrant market areas.

The Banadir Regional Administration persists with implementing road construction and renovation initiatives throughout the capital as a component of its urban advancement and service provision objectives.
