Police officers in Mogadishu have seized a significant cache of illegal weapons, including 33 AK-47 rifles and 4 PKM machine guns.
According to reports from state media, the police seized the weapons in an operation undertaken in the nation’s capital on Friday.
Along with the weapons, traders involved in the illicit arms trade were arrested.
This operation follows the Somali cabinet’s decision in July 2024 to ban the arms trade by non-state actors, in an effort to curb illegal arms distribution and strengthen security across the country.
This crackdown is part of broader government measures to enhance public safety and combat terrorism.
