Residents of Mogadishu counted their losses early on February 19 when government forces closed roads in the city.
On Friday morning, government deployed its forces to the streets to close the roads that members of the opposition wanted to use to access the Unknown Soldier’s Monument.
The monument was to be the venue of the huge rally opposition politicians planned.
They organized the rally to protest the government’s inability to hold parliamentary and presidential elections.
Residents believe that the decision to close the roads denied 3 million of them an opportunity to access the local markets to buy foodstuff.
Furthermore, many of them were unable to open their businesses or report to work thus incurring huge losses too.
