Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is the new President of Somalia.
Mohamud, who has served as Somalia’s President in the past, emerged victorious in elections held in Mogadishu on May 15.
He was elected by legislators from the House of the People (Lower House) and Senate (Upper House) in Sunday’s elections.
Ex-President Mohamud finished ahead of incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, who was his only challenger in the third round of polls.
Mohamud garnered 214 votes compared to the 110 that Farmaajo received.
He now takes over from Farmaajo as the 10th President of Somalia.
With his election as President, Somalia has now successfully concluded a grueling electioneering period that has lasted over two years.
