More children are getting married in the Horn of Africa as drought continues intensifying.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has published a report indicating that the situation is getting worse in countries in the region.
According to the latest update from UNICEF, the situation is dire.
The region is facing one of its worst droughts in 40 years. Families are opting for drastic measures to stay alive.
One of these is to release their young children for marriage.
Many young children in Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya are dropping out of school. Young girls are then getting into marriage at such tender ages.
UNICEF has called upon stakeholders to intervene fast to avoid creating a new crisis.
