More Hunger-Related Deaths Reported in Jubaland

More people have lost their lives to the biting hunger and starvation facing millions of Somalis.

In Jubaland, five people reportedly died from the ongoing hunger.

With rains failing for the third consecutive season in Somalia, there are fears that the situation is likely to get worse in the coming days and months.

Ali Kadiye Ahmed, a Jubaland District Commissioner, spoke on the situation.

The District Commissioner stated that the five deaths were recorded in Jubaland’s Gedo region.

Ahmed believes that the government is unaware or yet to verify more deaths.

Luuq is the worst-affected area.

Three deaths were recorded in Luuq. Two of those deaths were of young children.

District Commissioner Ahmed describes the situation as dire and urges authorities to distribute relief food to the needy cases urgently.
