More than 350,000 Drought-Affected People in Somalia Receive Support from IOM

More than 350,000 people affected by the ongoing drought in Somalia have received support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

IOM announced this in its latest report published on Friday, June 10.

The organization confirmed that it is scaling up its drought response efforts in the East African nation to save more lives.

Over 7 million Somalis in the country are affected by the drought directly.

Various organizations have repeatedly stated that the drought levels in the country are the worst in the last four decades.

IOM stated that it has been working closely with other partners to provide humanitarian assistance to the most affected groups.

For the most part, IOM has provided the drought-stricken families with emergency water trucking services.

The vulnerable households have also benefited from the shelter, water infrastructure, household items, and non-food supplies that IOM has provided.

IOM said that it would continue providing Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) to internally displaced persons (IDPs) to help them cater to their immediate needs.
