Ambassador Donald Yamamoto, the United States Ambassador to Somalia, has been blasted for referring to Somalia leaders who skipped the Dhusamareb III talks as “spoilers.”
A Member of Parliament in the Somalia Federal Parliament, Abdirizak Mohamed, hit out at Yamamoto’s comments.
President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland and President Ahmed Islan Madobe of Jubbaland opted to stay away from the recently concluded Dhusamareb talks.
However, their absence did not go down well with Yamamoto.
The Ambassador said the two leaders should have been present at the talks to voice any concerns they had with their colleagues.
MP Mohamed termed the language that Yamamoto used against duly elected regional leaders in Somalia as “an insult.”
Further, he said that Yamamoto committed a “public blunder” with his comments.
Mohamed also said that Yamamoto’s comments amount to nothing but a “mere farce.”
He lauded Deni and Madobe for staying away from what he referred to as “sham” talks in Dhusamareb imposed by outsiders.
The MP tweeted these views on August 23 on his official Twitter handle.
