MPs Elected at El-Wak and Garbaharey Won’t Elect Lower House Speaker and Deputy Speakers

Members of Parliament (MPs) elected in the recent elections in El-Wak and Garbaharey will not take part in electing the new leadership of the House of the People.

The 10-member committee that had been tasked with preparations for the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Lower House confirmed this on April 26.

Lower House MPs are scheduled to elect the new Speaker and Deputy Speakers on Wednesday, April 27 at Afiyosini, Mogadishu.

Delegates created more confusion when they elected Lower House legislators at El-Wak and Garbaharey respectively.

The Federal Elections Implementation Team (FEIT) had relocated the elections from Garbaharey to El-Wak.

Nevertheless, some FEIT members opted to proceed with the Garbaharey elections.

According to the 10-member organizing committee, none of the MPs would participate in electing a new Speaker or any Deputy Speaker.
