Ms. Catriona Laing has been appointed the new United Nations Special Representative for Somalia.
Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, announced Ms. Laing’s appointment on Thursday.
Ms. Laing takes over from James Swan of the United States.
She has over 35 years of experience in the field of diplomacy.
Laing has also served in the development and international relations circles.
Guterres announced that she would serve as the Head of the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).
