Simon Mulongo has spoken to the press on the decision by Somalia to expel him from the country.
Mulongo, a Ugandan diplomat serving as the Deputy Special Representative of the African Union Chairperson in Somalia, was given seven days to leave.
Furthermore, the Somali government declared him “persona non grata.”
Somalia accused him of engaging in activities that are not compatible with the mandate of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Additionally, Somalia also accused him of compromising the country’s security strategy.
On Friday night (November 5), Mulongo spoke to Daily Monitor – a Ugandan newspaper – from Mogadishu.
During the phone interview, he said that the expulsion came as a surprise as he had done nothing wrong.
He called the accusations Somali government leveled against him “rumors and not facts.”
Mulongo also said that he would be waiting on the African Union Commission (AUC) to provide guidance on his next course of action.
