Muslim Clerics Ask Government to Withdraw KDF from Somalia

Kenyan Muslim clerics have asked the administration of President Uhuru Kenyatta to withdraw Kenya Defense Forces from Somalia. KDF troops have been in the Horn of Africa nation for the past eight years fighting and seeking to eradicate Al-Shabaab militants.

Sheikh Juma Ngao, the Chairman of Kenya Muslims National Advisory Council (KEMNAC), asked the government to respect its Somali counterpart and give it space to deal with issues affecting the population. He said this when speaking with journalists from Kenya’s Daily Nation.

Sheikh Ngao said, “The unending tension between the governments of Kenya and Somalia is bad for our brothers in the North-Eastern region. Therefore, we ask the government to rethink its decision and return our soldiers home.”

Further, Sheikh Ngao asked the government to increase security in the country. He said that the level of insecurity has worsened in Kenya. Ngao further said, “Our government should station soldiers along our border instead of sending soldiers into a neighboring country.”
