National exams kicked off in Somaliland on Saturday.
The Ministry of Education in conjunction with the national council for exams is supervising the examinations closely.
Furthermore, reports from the ministry and the exams council indicate that fewer students are sitting for this year’s exams compared to last year.
Various reasons have been offered for this trend.
However, the fact that the exams are only for high school students to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country is cited as the main one.
Students in primary and intermediate classes would not be participating in this year’s national exams, though.
According to the National Examination Board, roughly 1,000 teachers and an equal number of police officers are scheduled to invigilate the exams and provide ample security respectively.
