More than 30,000 students have embarked on their national secondary school exams in Somalia despite the ravaging COVID-19 nightmare.
The Ministry of Education confirmed that the students all over the country began sitting for their exams on Saturday.
In Mogadishu, students are scheduled to sit for the exams in 122 centers.
Four Federal Member States (FMS) – Galmudug, Jubbaland, Southwest, and HirShabelle – have also set up exam centers for their students.
Puntland allowed its students to sit for their exams from July 4, 2020. Its exams are different from the standardized ones that students from other parts of the country are writing.
Furthermore, the government has deployed hundreds of security officers to various exam centers to ensure that students sit their exams in safe environments.
Abdirahman Goddah Barre, the Minister of Education, assured the public that students would be wearing facemasks while observing social distancing during this period.
