Mogadishu, Somalia – The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) announced that the District Council elections will now take place on December 25th, delayed from the original November 30th date.
NIEBC Chairman Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan stated that political organizations can continue their campaigns until election day.
He encouraged citizens to obtain their voter registration cards to participate in the upcoming national elections.
Several political organizations have opposed the schedule change, raising concerns about the electoral process and the independence of the commission’s members.
The electoral commission cited technical and preparatory challenges for the delay but reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the elections on the new date.
