New Online Learning Platform Launched in Puntland

Puntland’s Ministry of Education in conjunction with UNICEF have launched a new online learning platform in one of Somalia’s semiautonomous regions.

The platform shall be known as Learning Passport.

Its goal is to provide children with the access needed to learn as much as they can from their homes.

Furthermore, the platform’s creators say that they have designed it to operate both offline and online.

Other partners that took part in creating the platform include the University of Cambridge and Microsoft.

Abdullahi Mohamed Hassan, who is Puntland’s Minister of Education and Higher Education, said the region is “leading the way” in the continent in adopting this new platform.

Hassan also said the platform would ensure that children continue accessing quality educational content despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 has disrupted learning in not only Puntland but also the rest of the country. Schools and all formal learning institutions have been closed for the last three months.
