The new Deputy Commissioner of the Somali Police Force (SPF) will also serve as the head of the Special Branch.
Brigadier General Abdalla Abdalla, who stepped up as the new SPF Deputy Commissioner, will have more responsibilities following his appointment as the head of the Special Branch.
The Special Branch is a newly created unit of the police force.
It is designed to help the police force to operate more efficiently.
His appointment was confirmed on Thursday.
He took over the Deputy Commissioner roles from Brig. Gen. Zakia Hussein Ahmed whose tenure ended this week.
Brig. Gen. Ahmed made history when she became the first female officer to be appointed either a commissioner or deputy commissioner of the Somali Police.
