The newly appointed Special Envoy for Drought has held his first meeting with members of the National Drought Relief Committee (NDRC).
Abdirahman Abdishakur, appointed into the office by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud earlier this week, met with the NDRC members on May 25.
His meeting with the members of the drought committee took place in Mogadishu.
Abdishakur received briefings from the committee members on the scale of the ongoing drought in Somalia.
The drought has been described as one of the worst in the country’s history.
He also received information on the emergency efforts the country is making to tackle the deteriorating humanitarian situation.
