The new United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) office was inaugurated in a ceremony that took place in Mogadishu on Saturday.
Its official inauguration marks the end of the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), which concluded operations on October 31, 2024.
This transition highlights Somalia’s progress toward stability.
It aligns with the federal government’s request to gradually transfer UNSOM’s functions to the United Nations Country Team by October 2026 too.
UNTMIS will work closely with the Somali government and other stakeholders to support the country’s efforts in security, development, and humanitarian assistance during this two-year transitional period.
