MOGADISHU, Somalia – The leadership of the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) held a significant preparatory gathering with the operational personnel responsible for managing polling stations for the upcoming local elections. Chairman Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, joined by Deputy Chairman Sadiq Abshir Garad, addressed the assembled staff at the commission’s headquarters to detail the essential procedures and ethical standards necessary for the December 25th voting process.
Throughout the comprehensive briefing, Chairman Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan underscored the significant responsibility entrusted to the election workers. He encouraged the personnel to perform their responsibilities with utmost integrity and commitment to fundamental public service principles. The Chairman emphasized that the workers must serve the community relentlessly and openly, guaranteeing that every citizen can vote in a just and orderly setting.
The gathering drew numerous election officials and volunteers, many dressed in high-visibility vests, indicating their preparedness for assignment. Deputy Chairman Mr. Sadiq Abshir Garad stood beside the Chairman during the speech, reinforcing the commission’s consistent message of thoroughness and impartiality as the nation approaches this democratic achievement.
This briefing represents one of the concluding operational procedures before the city hosts a landmark event. On December 25, Mogadishu residents will proceed to the polls to engage in a one-person, one-vote election, all though political opponents are boycotting the election, making a lot of residents doubt if the election will happen and taint the credibility and the legitimacy that can be assigned to the outcome of the Benadir election on the 25th of December.
